Project Kickoff – Impreza Brighton L to WRX STI Conversion ๐Ÿš€

This my first journal that documents my 1997 Impreza WRC widebody build. The 97 WRC Impreza has been my all-time favorite Subaru. Since 1992 I’ve been into performance and show cars of all custom build genres.

Over the years Iโ€™ve seen some impressive builds in mags and online. Finally, the time has finally come for me to build my own!

After a few months of searching for a 1995-98 coupe, I found a 97 Brighton via Craigslist. I had a tough time finding a coupe, there were tons of sedans available on Craigslist. I drove to take a look at the car in person and purchased it for a great price 5 days later.

The goal for this build is to have a car I can take to a road course and also drive a few times a week through the streets. Iโ€™m looking to build a unique car that looks good and performs like a star! After getting the car California barโ€™d Iโ€™m eventually looking to build the motor to push 475-550whp (on pump gas if possible.) Update: The car will no longer be a street legal vehicle. I’ve decided to build it for dedicated track use.๐Ÿ˜Ž

On with the show, letโ€™s go!!!

I paid peanuts for this car and also worked out a deal to have motor and powertrain removed. I also had the terrible tan colored dash and seats removed! I towed the shell to my garage and started the stripdown of everything left in the engine bay and the interior.

Once I got the car to my garage I started the process of gutting the car of all interior, trunk and engine bay parts.
