This my first journal that documents my 1997 Impreza WRC widebody build. The 97 WRC Impreza has been my all-time favorite Subaru. Since 1992 I’ve been into performance and show cars of all custom build genres.
Over the years I’ve seen some impressive builds in mags and online. Finally, the time has finally come for me to build my own!
After a few months of searching for a 1995-98 coupe, I found a 97 Brighton via Craigslist. I had a tough time finding a coupe, there were tons of sedans available on Craigslist. I drove to take a look at the car in person and purchased it for a great price 5 days later.
The goal for this build is to have a car I can take to a road course and also drive a few times a week through the streets. I’m looking to build a unique car that looks good and performs like a star!
After getting the car California bar’d I’m eventually looking to build the motor to push 475-550whp (on pump gas if possible.) Update: The car will no longer be a street legal vehicle. I’ve decided to build it for dedicated track use.😎
On with the show, let’s go!!!
I paid peanuts for this car and also worked out a deal to have motor and powertrain removed. I also had the terrible tan colored dash and seats removed! I towed the shell to my garage and started the stripdown of everything left in the engine bay and the interior.
Once I got the car to my garage I started the process of gutting the car of all interior, trunk and engine bay parts.
